BTCC 2006 DVD
BTCC 2006 DVD – Description
Tears and laughter, dirty moves, crashes, controversy, heroes and villains – the BTCC has it all! Now in it’s 48th year, the competition has become one of motorsport’s biggest success stories. This season was jam-packed with all the high-drama typical of the BTCC, and the big teams like Halfords, SEAT Sport, VX Racing and Team RAC put forward some incredibly competitive machines. Both Jason Plato and Colin Turkington retained a mathematical chance of stealing Matt Neal’s crown up until the very last stage at Silverstone. This massive review brings four hours of highlights from Brands Hatch, Mondello Park, Oulton Park, Thruxton, Croft and Snetterton – plus extended highlights from two of the greatest BTCC races ever witnessed; the classic rounds at Knockhill and Donington Park! Featuring some footage not seen before on British TV. With the best driving from no less than 30 races this review is not to be missed!
«Duke has been distributing British Touring Car Championship reviews for nigh on 20 years, and its 2006 offering is up to the usual standard. With the vast majority of the footage drawn from ITV’s coverage – which means it features the excellent commentary from Ben Edwards and Tim Harvey – there may not be a great deal new here but, then again, what do you expect from a season review?
With four hours of footage everything is here and the producers deserve credit for focusing on the most dramatic races of the season rather than slavishly showing full highlights of every round. While some are reduced to barely a couple of minutes, the classic races – and there were plenty of them – are allowed a little extra spce to ensure the viewer can really get into them.
The only real disadvantage is the lack of extra features, although with four hours of race footage there’s no way to accommodate extra material without making it into a double DVD set with an inevitable price hike.
But ultimately, as is always the case with the BTCC, it’s the crash-bang-wallop of the on-track action that’s the star of the show. Just check out the stunning end to the second race at Snetterton, when Jason Plato and Matt Neal clash twice in the final half-lap; and Colin Turkington’s last-corner dive on Fabrizio Giovanardi at Donington Park. They’re worth the cost alone, especially with the priceless footage of David Pinkney demonstrating to the rest of the field exactly what he thought of Gavin Smith after the Irishman fired into him at Knckhill.
Quite simply, this is a must-buy for any BTCC fan to fill the three months until it starts all over again for the 2007 season.»
«Whatever else you do while watching the 2006 BTCC Review, don’t play the new Touring Car drinking game, which involves taking a swig of your beer every time one of the cars makes contact with another… You’ll be on the floor by race three. Public safety announcement aside: it will remind you of just what a class season of BTCC racing we had in 2006. There are some awesome tread on the gas ‘saves’ to enjoy while the in-car action – particularly from Thruxton – is heart in the mouth stuff.»
