JERONI FAJARDO (GAS GAS), 3º EN ITALIA

Adam Raga finaliza en la quinta plaza y continúa como líder del mundial

Darfo Boario Terme (Italia), 2 de julio de 2006.– Casi sin tiempo para descansar después de la celebración de la última prueba en La Chatre (Francia), el calendario del Campeonato del Mundo de Trial ha continuado su curso en tierras italianas, donde ha tenido lugar la octava cita del año en la que el piloto de GAS GAS, Jeroni Fajardo, ha conseguido una excelente tercera posición final, mientras que el actual Campeón del Mundo y máximo favorito a renovar su corona, Adam Raga, ha sido quinto. Con este resultado, el piloto de Ulldecona (Tarragona) continúa al mando de la clasificación general mundialista.

Sobre unas zonas extremadamente secas y muy polvorientas, Adam Raga concluía la primera vuelta del trial italiano en la sexta plaza, alejado de los puestos de cabeza. Ya en el segundo giro, el de GAS GAS mejoraba su rendimiento y ascendía una posición (5ª absoluta) que le reportaba unos valiosos puntos para mantener las diferencias sobre su inmediato perseguidor en el campeonato, el británico Doug Lampkin.

Por su parte, Jeroni Fajardo protagonizaba una brillante actuación consiguiendo un trabajado tercer puesto final (lo que supone su segundo podio de la temporada). Después de finalizar en idéntica posición la primera vuelta, Fajardo ha continuado con su gran regularidad en la parte final de la prueba. El joven piloto de GAS GAS comenta que “yo siempre doy el máximo en cada carrera y, a pesar de salir delante otra vez, he podido encontrar la confianza necesaria para terminar tercero. Es un resultado muy importante, ya que no es nada fácil comenzar sin tener referencias y posteriormente encontrar un buen ritmo”.

La novena cita del Campeonato del Mundo de Trial se disputará el próximo día 9 de julio en Myslenice (Polonia).

El piloto de Beta Trueba reduce su distancia con el líder.

El GP de Italia de Trial, sexta prueba puntuable para el Campeonato del Mundo de laespecialidad, ha vuelto a demostrar la tremenda igualdad existente este año entre lospilotos de cabeza. Con unos resultados muy ajustados entre los mismos, Toni Bou se haquedado a tan solo un punto de subir de nuevo al podio, finalizando cuarto por detrás deJeroni Fajardo en una carrera marcada por el intenso calor.

Aún así, este resultado le permite a Bou reducir en dos puntos su distancia con respectoal líder Raga, que hoy tan solo ha podido ser quinto. El piloto de Beta Trueba hamarcado la mejor puntuación parcial en el segundo giro, empatado con Fujinami yCabestany, pero una floja primera vuelta y cuatro puntos de penalización por tiempo lehan impedido un mejor resultado en una prueba en la que su compañero Marc Freixa hasido de nuevo séptimo.

Toni Bou: “Ha sido una carrera muy dura por el calor, y una vez más las distancias entre los diferentes pilotos han sido mínimas. Lo importante es que estamos ahí, luchando entre los mejores por la victoria en cada prueba.”

Albert Cabestany acaba segundo en Italia tras empatar a puntos con el ganador

Los pilotos de Sherco han vuelto a brillar en un durísimo GP de Italia de Trial, marcado por el intenso calor y la cerrada lucha entre los pilotos de cabeza. Albert Cabestany ha estado luchando por la victoria desde la primera zona, finalizando segundo tras el primer paso por las zonas. Con un tiempo bastante justo para realizar todo el recorrido, el piloto de Sherco ha logrado completar el mismo sin penalizar, lo que le ha llevado a acabar la prueba empatado a 39 puntos con Takahisa Fujinami. Sin embargo, el menor número de “ceros” (uno menos que Fujinami) obtenido por Cabestany le ha relegado a la segunda plaza, un resultado que no obstante le permite reducir las distancias con respecto a los pilotos que le preceden.

Albert Cabestany: “La carrera ha resultado muy dura por el calor y el polvo. Tras el esfuerzo realizado es una lastima que no podamos celebrar una victoria más habiendo empatado a puntos con el ganador, pero las carreras son así. De todas formas, estamos satisfechos tras comprobar que seguimos a la altura de los mejores.”

Victoria de Matteo Grattarola en una Youth Cup 125 dominada por los pilotos de Sherco

También han brillado de nuevo los jóvenes pilotos de Sherco en la Youth Cup 125, en la que el italiano Matteo Grattarola ha logrado imponerse, logrando su segunda victoria de la temporada, con Loris Gubian situado en tercera plaza. Tras estos magníficos resultados, los dos pilotos de Sherco siguen mandando en la provisional de la categoría, con Gubian mandando la misma por delante de Grattarola.

Dougie Lampkin experienced the bitter taste of defeat at the Italian Grand Prix today when he slumped to sixth place, just seven days after having clinched his first victory of the season in France. On an otherwise black day for Lampkin, the only positive news was that despite his poor showing he only lost one point to Raga in the championship race, as the Spanish rider endured an equally bad day to finish in fifth spot.

Lampkin arrived in the small town of Darfo Boario Terme, approximately one hundred kilometres North East of Milan, full of confidence after his win at the French Grand Prix. However his day was over before it had even begun properly, with Dougie clocking up three maximums in the first five hazards.

Normally one of the best rounds of the year, this edition of the Italian Grand Prix was poor compared to previous years. Usually the sections are located high in the mountains, but this time around, at a much lower altitude the hazards lacked both variety and imagination, with there being no break from the dry and dusty rocks.

Dougie languished down in seventh place on a massive forty marks at the end of the first lap, whilst eventual winner Fujinami had only dropped fifteen marks on observation and five on time for the same period.

The second lap started better for Lampkin, but by section five he was beginning to lose his way and confidence once again. Four more maximums on this tour quickly increased his tally. His day was to become even worse as a big crash forced running repairs to his bike, which would lead to much unwanted time penalties come the finish.

"Days don't come much blacker than today, I simply couldn't do anything right at all. It has been a nightmare from start to finish. I never felt right all day, or found any kind of confidence, I wish I had something to blame, but I haven't, it was just a bad day all round. In terms of positives there has been none, but I suppose I have top count myself lucky that I have only lost one point to Raga in the overall standings given the circumstances."

James Dabill - Top Trial Team

Showing great maturity and resilience James Dabill put the disappointing events of yesterday clear behind him and bounced back brilliantly to record yet another top ten finish in the World championship proper.

The small town of Darfo Boario Terme hosted the 2006 Italian Grand Prix, which proved to lack the ingredients that have made this round of the series so special in the past. With no mountain location to offer a good variety of terrain, the trial for the second week running featured sections of a single type.

In extremely hot and dusty conditions Dabill earned a great eighth place after posting two consistent lap scores, whilst some of his rivals faded during the later stages due to the hot weather. Despite recording nine failures on his first lap, James' score of forty nine marks was only just behind that of multi World champion Lampkin who had dropped forty marks for the same period.

Looking both determined and focussed Dabill set out on his second and final visit to the fifteen dry and dusty hazards knowing he must at least maintain his morning performance if he was to gain a top ten finish. Showing no signs of fatigue James attacked the sections with increased confidence and in doing so reduced his number of maximums to just seven, to record an even better second lap score.

Dabill's fourth - eighth place in the series, his best result was seventh at the second Grand Prix in Portugal, now moves him up to the same position in the overall standings. With the young rider from Leeds having now moved ahead of the much more experience Blazusiak from Poland.

Poland is the next stop on the championship tour, with European and World events taking place over next weekend, where Dabill will have to be at his best to maintain his place in the championship.

"After what happened yesterday this is a good tonic and a good way to end the weekend before we move on to the next round. I have ridden well, but what has been really pleasing today is my level of physical fitness, as this really plays a big part when the conditions are as tough as they have been today."

Grattarola si esalta davanti al pubblico di casa

Ancora un successo per il Team Italia Trial e Matteo Grattarola che proprio nella tappa italiana di Boario Terme, domenica, è risalito sul gradino più alto del podio.

Nella due giorni italiana Grattarola (nella foto di Mario Candellone, www.phototrial.it) si è distinto anche sabato nella prova valida per il Campionato Europeo, dove ha fatto segnare la seconda posizione. Indubbiamente domenica, nel confronto mondiale nella categoria Youth, Matteo ha dato il meglio di se. Sotto un caldo sole e con qualche prova disputata con un po’ di polvere, il nostro portacolori non ha compromesso la sua prestazione anche incamerando, per ben due volte, le fatidiche cinque penalità. Errore, comunque, fatto registrare anche dagli avversari diretti. “Una gara semplice quella odierna, ma con la stessa facilità si poteva incappare in un bel cinque e perdere concentrazione.” – afferma Francesco Lunardini – “Matteo è stato attento e non ha perso i nervi. In questo mondiale combattuto ed al contempo equilibrato, essere lucidi è la miglior cosa. A quattro gran premi dalla fine del campionato Grattarola è di certo in lizza per il titolo.”

Un’iniezione di fiducia, le parole del Coordinatore Federale azzurro, che però devono essere recepite con un’ulteriore senso di responsabilità per un giovane come Grattarola che ha, nel suo futuro, tutta la stima e l’orgoglio del Team Italia Trial e della Federazione Motociclistica Italiana.

Presenti alla tappa italiana anche Garzoni e Monteschio che nella stessa categoria proseguono il loro apprendistato. Nella categoria Junior la classifica fa segnare un Francesco Iolitta un po’ sottotono: ottavo sabato nel contesto continentale; peggiore il suo risultato domenica con il 14° posto.

Ancor peggio è andata a Vaccaretti che si è dovuto ritirare in entrambe le giornate. Sabato è caduto danneggiando la sua moto ma quel che è peggio ha battuto violentemente il polso. Il dolore, nella giornata di domenica, è stato così forte che Andrea ha dovuto dare forfait alla gara.

Non dimentichiamo che il prossimo week-end, in Polonia, si ritorna a gareggiare sperando, ancora una volta, di vedere il nostro “Gratta” al vertice.

Alexz Wigg (JST 125 Gas Gas Pro Racing) had another successful weekend at theItalian rounds of the UEM European Junior and WTC Youth Championships. Alexzproduced an outstanding performance in Darfo Boario Terme to take a convincingwin in the Junior 125 class. His ride was one which was based on consistency makingno major mistakes, taking the odd dab here and there to give him the clear cutwin. Riding well on the steep and loose climbs section 2 was probably the decidingsection, cleaned on both laps by Wiggy. Lap one he dropped 3 marks and the secondloop 2 totalling 5, trailing Gratterola on two for lap one his Italian rival succumbedto the tough number two which dropped him down to second at the final reckoning on9. Third place went to lee sampson (Sherco) for an overdue podium on 15. A pleased Alexz said " today everything seemed to click into place, I felt in control and made no seroius errors, a good result".

This result lifts Alexz to the top of the Championship, with a points lead of 8 pointsover the second place rider Gubian, with only 2 rounds to go. A great day for Alexzand the team!Alexz was very keen to start on the Sunday WTC after the previous day’s success inthe Euro’s full of determination to continue where he left off. The first lap on sectionsmade slightly more difficult from Saturdays course proved to be a tough test ofnerves and skill. Section 4 cleaned twice before proved to be a costly mistake, a fivewhich spoilt a first lap of 8 marks lost, leaving Alexz in fourth place but only twomarks behind the leader lee Sampson .

Lap two started even better and Alexz wasclean up to section five and as he failed to get out of this another unfortunate maximumwas recorded. Apart from these fives he was on top form and completed thesecond lap for the best lap score (yet again) this time with winner Gratterola gettingthe nod for the win by reason of his better first lap, but only by a single mark.

Alexz improved to second by the end of lap two but for that final section dab would havematched the score of the winner. “I know I shouldn’t be disappointed with second today,but if I had avoided two slack dabs at 15 each time the win was there for theasking. I felt really good on the second lap and the sections that were altered werehard anyway, so it made it a clean or five in section 5, which maybe cost me the wintoday”.

Yet another good day's trialing and an improvement in the standings for both Championships this weekend. This still leaves Alexz in fourth place in the WTC whichis very close in the overall positions. In the SPEA Young Hopefuls another maximum,which has him in second place overall, but only seven rounds to count.
